Mercy High School is a private and independent Catholic high school for young women sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy and is located within the Archdiocese of Baltimore on a 26-acre wooded campus at 1300 East Northern Parkway in Baltimore, Maryland. Its mission is to offer students a superior education in an environment rooted in Christian values. The school first opened its doors on September 26, 1960. ==Background== "Loyalty, leadership and service" is the school's motto. To that end, in their junior year students complete 50 hours of community service through a program that has been in place since the early 1970s. The idea of hospitality, a tenet of the Sisters of Mercy, is another guiding force at this school; visitors often comment on the warmth and friendliness of students. Mercy is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools and has been named an Exemplary Private School by the United States Department of Education and the Council for American Private Education. The school is a member of the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS) and the Mercy Secondary Education Association (MSEA), an international affiliation of Mercy-owned schools.
